About LUIGI.

What it does.

LUIGI has tools for managing and communicating with participating artists involved as core members or as guests. It manages repertoire libraries, scheduling, travel, budgeting, contracts, payments, production design, program creation, and ticket reservations. It has tools for analyzing, visualizing, and exporting the information, including special tools for production staff who need to create schedules and other public-facing documents and send those details to large groups of people. Starting in 2019 a version of LUIGI called Luigi for Partners has been available to other organizations, and has since been used by hundreds of musicians, artists, and arts administrators in music ensembles, summer festivals, and opera companies.

What it is.

LUIGI is named in honor of visionary 20th-century composer Luigi Nono, and was inspired by a trip to his pioneering research at the SWR Experimental Studio in Freiburg, Germany. Nono envisioned massive multimedia music and theatre pieces to fully express his anti-war and humanitarian vision, and worked to develop new technologies to give the largest possible voice to these powerful works.

LUIGI is a platform for visionary work. It’s puts artists and creators at the center of your organization’s work, giving them tools to see beyond the “where and when” and to be involved in the “why and how.”

In 2022, LUIGI served over 500 artists, staff, and arts administrators to manage and produce over 100 events worldwide. It was created by and for artist-centered organizations; its active development for like-minded organizations, and its responsive support team make it an invaluable platform for music ensembles, summer festivals, and opera companies.

How it runs.

Luigi is a dynamic web application that is a hybrid CMS and CRM. It is cloud-hosted software, and data is secure and protected from other Luigi instances. Luigi has a configurable permissions system to allow selected users to assist with project management and to provide maximum transparency to trusted users.

Luigi is modular and created to be flexible for use with a variety of different types of organizations. In 2021 it was redesigned with a contemporary web template front end for most user- and administrative-facing views, and many improvements were made to the code and database to allow easier development by a growing team of engineers.

In 2022, tools have been added to help with on-boarding of new organization members, and security features have been brought up to date. It is a responsive website with attention to users on mobile devices that may need to quickly access calendars, announcements, and other information on their phones during events and travel.
